This new offering is a special volume from the “Sandusky Bay Chapter
of the Archaeological Society of Ohio.” It offers over 100 pages
of collector-friendly archaeological articles in a finely made, spiral-bound
volume.
The casual viewer might think this is a dedicated volume on Ohio archaeology,
but they would be wrong to conclude that. Nearly half of this volume is dedicated
to articles regarding Michael Gramly’s recent work on Paleoindian sites
in recent years,. These include the Hiscock site, Cedar Fork Creek site and
the Lower Blue Lick site in Kentucky. The evidence is compelling that these
populations from so long ago had intense and repeatable practices that are
just being uncovered. None of these articles have been available before in
one place. There are many illustrations, all in color, and these even include
a beautiful drawing by Ren Harvey of what a Clovis-era mastodon bone sled
may have looked like.
In addition to these articles, the volume includes an “out-of-print” book
excerpt, that provides an historic background as to how Native Americans
were treated by the settlers in the late 1700s.
Ohio isn’t forgotten either, and there are several articles on the
Heckleman site mear Milan, Ohio, plus one on the Indian Hills site in Rossford,
Ohio. Additionally there is a fine article on Early Woodland pottery in Ohio.
This is a finely put together publication that would be a wonderful addition
to any collector’s library, and provides up-to-date information on
the Lower Blue Lick site that cannot be found elsewhere.
Highly recommended.
