On the Cover
The sun shines down on the large platform mound in the distance. It was
originally at the center of a large Mississippian site just outside
of Evansville, Indiana. today known as Angel Mounds. This mound remains
as one of the largest prehistoric structures in the United
States, with a base of 166’ x 335’ and a volume of 67,785 cubic
yards. It served as the residence of high status individuals who ruled over
this metropolis from AD 1100-1450. For more on Angel Mounds, see the
