In an area close to where I live, there is a spot that has proven to be an
ancient site. I originally discovered it when I was looking for a walking
stick and came upon a spot where several turkeys had been scratching the
earth in a quest for food. Their scratching had uncovered a few points. My
curiosity got the best of me and I did some scratching myself! Lo and behold,
by the end of the day I had 20 points.
Obviously I had to return, and that has led to numerous explorations of
this small spot, which sits on a slope that runs down towards the river.
So far, this site appears to be a Middle Archaic period camp spot, as I
have found nothing that shows any presence from another time period (Figs
1-9). I have uncovered numerous projectile points as well as tools and other
objects. Several of the artifacts are made from limestone, which shows degradation,
which is very noticeable on a roller pestle and a small cone that I found
