James (Jim) Felke of Rochester, Indiana, passed away on July 19, 2016 after a brief illness. He was 73. He was well known in the collecting community.
Over the years, Jim taught industrial arts at Griffith High School, Calumet High School and finally at North Miami High School where he taught until his retirement in 2010. While at North Miami, he also served as track and cross-country coach for 17 years.
Jim was a longtime member of the Indiana Archaeological Society and held several officer positions. In addition, he was also served as an officer in the Genuine Indian Relic Society, including several terms as treasurer and president. He participated in Who’s Who in Indian Relics #2, as well as #11. Jim was a lifetime collector and through the years was trusted and highly respected by everyone in the collecting community. Jim was a fine writer and contributed several excellent articles to the CSAJ over the years. He attended many shows and always put on a fine display. He loved talking about artifacts, and could always add some importantfacts to any conversation.
Survivors include his wife, Katie Felke children Chris Felke and friend Tracy Duncan, Michele and husband Lance Nelson, Kyle and wife Alisa Felke, Courtney Felke, Redding, Calif., and Carey and husband Ryan Miller, along with several grandchildren. |
