The Old #8 Highway runs close to my house. I have always found the creek that runs under it to be a great place to hunt for artifacts. One day in 2006 it rained cats and dogs the night before and I was confident that the rushing water might help uncover something interesting.

I drove my truck over to the small bridge that runs over the creek. As I stepped out, I saw a new gravel bar that the rain had helped create. As I looked down something caught my eye. Even though I am up in years, my eyesight is still pretty good. What I saw looked to me like a small toy plane and I had to go investigate.

I climbed down and walked over to the gravel bar, my eyes keenly on the spot where I had sighted this odd looking object. Much to my surprise, when I got there it was not a toy at all, but a wonderful 4” long point! It was made from Burlington chert which was highly patinated from age. The point.....
