Click to enlarge | This discoidal was acquired from the auction of the Lamoine
Kaufman collection held in Hamel, Illinois in 1980. It has S D-1 written
on the side and is in flawless condition. The disc was originally found
by the Ramey family whose farm included Monk’s Mound. The current
owner, Carl Becker, is sharing it after reading about a pipe owned by
Mr. Kaufman in the October 2022 CSAJ. It measures 3” in diameter.
Carl knew Lamoine and stated that he “attended the artifact show
every year that was held in East Alton, Illinois.” Carl visited
the Madison Historical Museum as a teenager. He noted that the collection
was then housed in a room on the second story with the points attached
by wires and displayed on the wall. He noticed at the time that some points
were missing and their wires had been cut. Collection of Carl Becker, Moro, Illinois
