Over 30 years ago, the author was visiting a close friend in Michigan who
is an ardent bowhunter and an occasional collector of prehistoric artifacts.
Alfred Gemrich lives in the countryside in south-central Michigan on a farm
of some 200 acres that has been gradually reforested under his care. His
property borders Cedar Creek, and from time to time the land has given up
a random projectile point when bare ground was exposed.
Many of Gemrich’s neighbors in years past had active farms in the
immediate area, and the Leinaar family farm just to his west included two
members of the family who actively collected artifacts on their properties.
Boyd Leinaar eventually gifted to Gemrich a small box of artifacts he had
personally recovered. Included among these was the Clovis point pictured
in Figures 1 and 2.
