6 ½” long, grooved gouge or adze discovered in Decatur
County. Iowa. Gouges and adzes are more commonly ungrooved. Bottom:
Hafted digger (hoe/adze) measuring 5 ¾” in length found
in Saline County, Missouri. One third of bit-end is highly polished
from being utilized going into the ground thousands of times or possibly
hollowing out multiple tree trunks to make canoes. Both artifacts were
found by Arlo Williams.
