The Wandering Stanfield

My father, Evan Price, was given a large 400+ artifact collection in the
later 1920s. The bulk of the collection was common and reworked pieces; the
exception was a beautiful second stage 6 ¾” long Stanfield knife.
In 1930, the collection was photographed by the University of Chicago as
part of their research in Fulton County, Illinois, for publication in their
book report, “Rediscovering Illinois.” My father later sold the
collection in 1935 to dealer Raymond Long. Later on, my father spoke of that
Stanfield and mentioned that he regretted ever selling it.
Fast forward to 1959, when I took a phone call from Raymond Long. He stated, “I
