Keosauqua, Iowa – The First Indian Relic Collectors meeting of the
newly-organized Hawkeye State Archaeological Society of Iowa was held Sunday,
September 20, 1969, at the Van Buren High School here at Keosauqua.

More than 40 displays of Indian artifacts, books and associated items were
viewed by more than 500 visitors.
The society was formed this summer by Indian Artifact collectors from the
Southeastern Iowa area.
Officers for the coming year are President,Jim Cox, Cantril; First Vice-President,
Dale Roberts, Mt. Sterling; Second Vice-President, Jim Conger, Martinsburg;
Secretary-Treasurer, Eugene Jones, Martinsburg. On the Board of Directors
are Ted Watson and Glen Hummell, both of Stockport; Merle McDonald and Jack
Riley, Cantril; Dean Conger, Ollie; and Bob Mitchell, Mt. Sterling.
The Hawkeye State Archaeological Society is affiliated with the Central
States Archaeological Societies, which include the Illinois State Archaeological
Society, The Greater St. Louis Archaeological Society, The Northwest Archaeological
Society, The Kentucky Green River Archaeological Society and the Volunteer
State Archaeological Society of Tennessee.
