In Memoriam

HICKORY ~ We are sad to report the death of long-time Piedmont Archaeology Society member Jimmy D. Sweezy, 65, of Hickory, N. C. who fought a courageous battle with cancer. Jimmy was a popular and respected businessman and avid golfer. He excelled in football and baseball in his youth. His passion for collecting Indian artifacts and pottery, and researching Native American prehistory was a life long pursuit. He accumulated an extensive artifact collection that was displayed in his basement along with other memorabilia accumulated throughout his life. Jimmy recently enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Marana, Arizona where he died on January 13th, just 3 days shy of his 66th birthday. Jimmy loved life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His wife Deborah Ann Sweezy; 2 daughters; a son-in-law; a brother, Bruce and sister-in-law along with a number of grandchildren, stepchildren and stepgrandchildren survive him. His internment was on Sunday January 18th in Hickory.
