|
| by Rick Fitzgerald |
Read this book to learn about Native American Indian pottery. Meet the individual that helped us all learn about it.Rick’s work is a fitting tribute to Roy, and I know he would be proud of it. Through recollections of Roy’s friends you will get to know the unique charming personality of Mr. Pottery, as he was referred to by many. The 103 photos tell the story of Roy and pottery of the Mississippian period.
You will see 82 pieces of truly outstanding pottery. The 91 exceptional colored photos allow one to appreciate low fired earthen ware. You will see the elegance of form along with the variations of hues, shades, tones and the vivid colored slips of painted pottery.
The pottery is grouped into; types, styles, motifs and finishes which aids in learning and understanding the different cultural associations. The history of each piece is shown.
We were future that Roy shared this information with others, and that Rick was wise enough to have recorded it. Now it along with additional information searched by Rick has been published so we can all enough it. If you did not have the opportunity to meet Roy you will get a feel for Roy’s dry sense of humor and gifted memory. For those of us that were acquainted with him, but not well enough this is our second chance, and for his close friends it will bring back many memories.
In this work you can almost hear Roy say “well” when you would ask him if he knew the history of a piece of pottery.
Even though Roy seldom smiled his school friend summed up that charming personality well with the nick name “Happy”. You felt happy just being around him!
This book keeps the spirit of Roy’s love for “history” of artifacts and the goal of the Central States Archaeological Society “documentation” in good stead.
